Call for Projects
The “My-D Foundation” is addressing the “hen-and-egg” problem in the field of linked open data by supporting projects that feature interdisciplinary showcase applications along with concerted efforts to improve the data basis the applications build on. Its first call for projects focuses on the intersection of Wikidata and other public sources of data (e.g. OGD). Project proposals in english can be submitted until 28 February 2019.

JavaScript S/MIME Message Creator
(currently under development)
- Security and protection of citizen and institutions interacting with authorities and other communication partners
- Available tool useful to a large population of issue-aware, but not technically sophisticated users
- Runs in any major (HTML5-capable) browser on all major operating systems. No installation is required.
- It runs locally within the browser on the user’s computer.
- No contents or keys are transferred through the network. Not leaving any traces of what they use it for.
- S/MIME provides state-of-the-art security. Asymmetric key-based cryptography provides much better resilience against brute-force attacks as compared to symmetric password-based cryptography.
- S/MIME is an open standard with wide industry support. Open source software libraries are readily available for all major platforms.
WC-Guide project
WC-Guide is the largest directory of public toilets in Switzerland, founded in 2008 by Adriano Fattizzo and Corinne Grond of the association "Sonnenschauer Projects". The WC-Guide was first available as a website, followed by apps for iPhone and Android with the distribution of smartphones.
Users of the WC-Guide can view details of registered toilets, make their own entries or generate error messages for existing entries. Since the reliability of the entries is important to us, the entries will be checked by us before publication.
Meanwhile the WC-Guide is available in four languages: German, French, Italian and English and has over 6100 toilets in its directory.
Due to the rapid progress of technology on the Internet, its requirements changed, which the WCGuide website can no longer cover adequately. Today, the WC-Guide is increasingly called up via the website using a smartphone and so the priority of the app shifts back to the website.
Modern technologies such as PWA (Progressive Web Application), JavaScript and HTML5 are making it possible using a browser to execute certain functions that were previously only possible with an app. The requirements of the WC-Guide can all be covered with this technology and so the apps would no longer be necessary.

Wikidata Welsh Biography Timeline project
About the Dictionary of Welsh Biography:
The Dictionary of Welsh Biography (DWB) is a bilingual biographical dictionary of Welsh people who have made a significant contribution to Welsh life over seventeen centuries.It was first published in 1959. In 2004 it was first published online by the National Library of Wales (NLW) and is now maintained by the Library. Contributions and peer review is the responsibility of the University of Wales’ Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies. To date the dictionary contains nearly 5000 entries. In 2018 a new Website was launched, funded by the National Library of Wales.
The Dictionary of Welsh Biography is widely used for academic research, as a teaching aid and by family and local history community. The website currently receives around 12,000 unique visits every month.
Linked open data:
In 2015, with the appointment of a Wikipedian in Residence NLW began to share biographical data for people in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography via Wikidata as a way of widening access, encouraging reuse of data and enriching the data. Since then the Wikipedia in Residence, now the National Wikimedian, has continued to enrich the Wikidata by extracting data and entities from the text of the articles. The new website contains links to Wikipedia and relevant Wikidata items.
Wikidata enables us to share the relevant data openly. Mapping to Wikidata also enriches our data, as external identifiers and additional information is added by 3rd parties. We propose a project to create an interactive bilingual timeline of all people in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography powered to Wikidata.

PDF Signer
The PDF file format is among the most widespread document formats in use today. It is, in some ways, the digital version of a sheet of paper – or a pile of paper.
Official documents often have to be signed. Traditionally, such documents were printed out, hand-signed, and submitted via a postal service. Nowadays, digital signatures are accepted as well, allowing documents to be signed and sent without ever being printed on paper. This is not only more eco-friendly, but also saves all the printing trouble.
Several tools offer signing PDF documents. However, they generally require installing some professional PDF software on the computer, or submitting the PDF file to an online service.
The latter is not desired/acceptable for confidential documents.
In addition, official documents in Switzerland require qualified electronic signatures (QES) in PDFs (preferable PDF/A), such as those offered by the Swisscom AIS service. With the proposed project, we seek to develop a web app to sign PDF documents, offering the following features:
- It runs in any major (HTML5-capable) browser on all major operating systems. No installation is required.
- The signature is added inside the browser, without transmitting the PDF document to any server.
- The document is signed using the Swisscom AIS service, or similar services. For that, the PDF hash (not the document itself) is submitted to a server for signing, and the resulting signature is integrated into the PDF document.
- A signature “stamp” is added onto the document. The user can place this stamp anywhere onto the document, optionally with a comment and a picture.
- The configuration is stored locally (in the browsers local store), and can be exported as JSON file.
- Login credentials can be passed along for identification.
- The web app with all its components is published under the Gnu Affero3 license with the my-d amendment. Users can review the code from a state-of-the art repository such as GIT2. The project will also maintain a public ticketing system.

Die Webseite entscheidsuche.ch bietet eine Suche in allen publizierten Gerichtsurteilen von Schweizer Gerichten aller Instanzen (Gerichte des Bundes und kantonale Gerichte)
Aktuell wird eine Lösung erarbeitet, mit der die neu publizierten Urteile tagesaktuell bei den jeweiligen Quellen abgeholt und via entscheidsuche.ch auffindbar gemacht werden. Ebenfalls vorgesehen ist die Möglichkeit, dass Rechtsanwältinnen und Rechtsanwälte von Behörden nicht publizierte Urteile in geeigneter Form via entscheidsuche.ch auffindbar machen.

water-fountains.org
An interactive web application for discovering Zurich’s (and later the World’s) fountains, promoting (with a showcase app) and supporting both Open Data and open source. It should allow for feedback loops to keep the public utility alive and possibly extend it and in the best case even foster the creation of a “community” around the topic. Generalized, it will be a system to aggregate heterogeneous data of public interest in an efficient and user-friendly way.
